Blue Bowl Concentrator

Blue Bowl Concentrator

Of all the black sand and fine gold separation methods, the Blue Bowl will save the finest gold without resorting to mercury or other chemicals. In the past it was called the D.A.M. Bowl but Pioneer Mining in Auburn, CA aquired the patents and the molds and now it's just called the Blue Bowl. They work best with materal that has been screened through a 30 mesh screen but with material between 20 and 30 mesh also works good. It has been our experiance that there is a learning process you must go through to properly master the blue bowl. After getting your material classified down and setting your water pressure, which is very touchy, Too much pressure and your gold go's out the center hole and too little pressure your material wou'nt seperate, but you will quickly adapt. Seeing the gold in the bottom of your bowl is a thrill every time.

HighBankers

hbpic
Highbankers are a fairly new prospecting tool.  Panning for gold is hard back braking work, many humans look for an easier way no matter what they are doing.  The high-banker was born, all of the first high bankers where made of wood.  Some have a two level design, you scoop your material in the top and with water it works its way to the lower level.  Some high bankers have a hopper box design on the top where you shovel the material in and it filters through to the lower level.

The first high bankers were used in rivers and streams, for a never ending water supply.  Then came the 12 volt miner, little 12 volt motors that turned a water pump.  You could take your car battery and run your high banker.  Today it is best to have a deep cycle marine battery, my father alternates two batteries, to insure full power for many hours of operation.  Over the years the design has changed a little, however the principle is the same.  You will find many options of highbankers to choose from, they all work, you just need to pick the one that you feel will work the best for you.

The aluminum highbankers are a vast improvement over the wooden ones.  Even if you painted or sealed the wood, it wouldn't be long and in places the wood swells, the paint starts to peal. The wooden ones are heavier than the aluminum ones to start with, just water log the wood just a little and your hibanker is even heavier.  I have had extensive time with the aluminum hi banker and I would recommend it over the wood any day.  Not to mention they last 100 times longer.  The extra expense can and will be taken care of with your first nugget.  Good luck!

Metal Detectors

Prospecting Equipment

Gold prospecting has been around for centuries providing a fun and potentially profitable way to enjoy nature, and all you need is a little know-how and some good prospecting equipment to take part in it. Prospecting in the 21st century is mainly done for recreational purposes and provides hours of fun environmentally friendly activity for the whole family. Probably one of the most attractive things about searching for gold is that you need only relatively simple prospecting equipment to get started. And, of course, you could actually make a little money which always adds to the fun! A couple ounces of gold nugget can bring in a few thousand bucks!

Think of how much fun searching for gold would add to a family outing or picnic and the only prospecting equipment you need to get started is a gold prospecting pan. Panning is the simplest and most effective way to begin your gold hunt. A pan and a sluice box are inexpensive to buy and can provide hours and hours of fun. A sluice box is the box you drop the sediment into and sift through for the gold nuggets. Panning is so easy to learn even the kids can do it. And, it has absolutely no negative effect of the environment.

Of course you should add to your prospecting list a shovel, pick and water source for sifting through the sluice box. The shovels and picks are kind of the next level. They give you more access to larger chunks of sediment to sift through. What is so great about gold prospecting is that it provides an experience that far outweighs the possible financial gain. Such a simple and fun activity is truly a unique experience that will be remembered for years to come. And, imagine what a thrill it would be to actually find gold! It really is out there and with very little in prospecting equipment you have just as much chance of finding it as anyone.

If you really want to get serious about gold prospecting, the next level of prospecting equipment will really help find those nuggets. For those interested in actually trying to make a financial boon out of prospecting, technology has provided highly sensitive metal detectors that can find a piece of gold as big as a pin head several inches under the ground. Gold prospecting is a fun and potentially lucrative activity.

Prospecting weekend

We arrived at the claim site early Saturday morning.  The excitement of getting started  was almost to much to keep in.  We had our high banker, modified just a little.  We highly recommend the screened in canopy setup you see in the pictures and video.  It not only helps with sun and wind but it keeps the bees out.  We setup in the middle of a wash right at the site of an elevation change.  It must be a hell of a water fall, when the water is running.  At the base of the water fall is where we dug.  First one foot then two, the loose sand falling back in the hole.  Soon the hole was close to four foot deep and the same around.  We did find bed rock on the vertical slope of the water fall.  It was getting late after noon and we wanted to try the high banker.  Great planning on Pops part for a supply of water from a tank in the back of his truck, gravity fed down to the dry wash.  It worked great, we had more water than time for prospecting.

We had to try a little metal detecting before calling it a day and starting our camp fire.  The camp fire was one of the many highlights of the trip.  The sun set was spectacular, the sun rise was even better.

The next day was load up day, a lot of supplies to set up and take down for one day however we were very thankful for the time we did get.

We are looking forward to expanding the hole and finding the gold nuggets that we know are down there.  The next trip needs to be at least two full days.

We both had a great time, prospecting is fun!  Thanks Pops.
